The effort to save and restore Highfield Hall has been characterized by amazing community support and the willingness of countless volunteers, who rolled up their sleeves and did whatever it took to make the dream come alive. Now, as Highfield moves into full operations as a community cultural center, volunteer support is more critical than ever. It is said that an army runs on its belly. Likewise a non-profit organization depends on its volunteers. Our volunteers fuel our efforts with amazing kindness, talent and generosity.

Below are some current volunteer opportunities at Highfield. If you do not see anything below that offers a good fit for your talents and interests, please contact us and we will discuss your ideas. volunteers@highfieldhall.org

We are looking for volunteers for the following areas:

  • Nature and Garden Programs -- help coordinate, schedule, or present programs that incorporate our grounds, gardens, and Beebe Woods.

  • Art Exhibits -- we need volunteers to help create, organize, install, and promote art exhibitions and related programs in both our downstairs galleries and our second floor community gallery.

  • Docents -- Although we do not do regular tours of Highfield Hall, we do offer regular walking tours of the Beebe estate. This allows us to use the historic buildings as our interpretation touch points to tell the Highfield story.

  • Gardeners -- Our Master Plan for the restoration of the gardens and grounds is now in hand. Prepared by well-known Landscape Preservationist Lucinda Brockway, the plan offers many opportunities for volunteers to assist in the clearing, planting, and rejuvenation of the historic landscape.

  • Concerts -- If you like music, you will find something to do at Highfield Hall. Help us search out musical talent, organize concerts and music programs, and staff actual music events.

  • Greeters -- Highfield Hall is open Monday through Friday from 10 am to 3 pm. During those hours we must have a volunteer staffing our front desk to greet visitors, answer questions, and help direct people who come for programs and other activities. The shifts are 10 to 12:30 and 12:30 to 2 and we encourage volunteers to select a regular shift -- but will also gladly welcome volunteers who can only work occasionally.

  • Cooking programs -- Do you like to cook or do you simply like to eat? With its brand new catering kitchen, cooking programs and classes of all kinds are possible. We need people to brainstorm, help enlist teachers and chefs, and help staff classes and programs.

  • Fundraising -- Although the capital campaign is nearing completion, we continue to need active fundraising to fund our operating budget and the restoration of the gardens. We need volunteers to serve on our Development Committee and our Special Events Committee to help us raise funds through events, cultivation, and personal solicitation.

  • Kitchen volunteers -- Highfield does a variety of events, luncheons, and other functions that require food service. We need volunteers to help who like to entertain or who enjoy working with food. We also need volunteers to simply help iron our tablecloths!

To volunteer please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Nancy Brink, and she will have the appropriate chairman or coordinator contact you.
