Enjoy a fun day outdoors at Highfield. Celebrate the opening of our exhibition, The Fairy Houses of Beebe Woods, and enjoy an opportunity to meet the artists of Enchanted: Through the Lens of Boston Photographers and Fantastical Birds: Quietus in Flight. Learn about the Sunken Garden and the Beech Tree Walk from our resident experts and enjoy a conversation with culinary expert Gail Blakely, and Music Director Robert Wyatt will present a piano interlude of “fairy music.” All of our summer program instructors will be on hand with crafts and fun activities and we’ll have a preliminary bubble fest in anticipation our July Family Nights. At 3:00 pm John Carafoli will discuss his new book, Cape Cod Chef's Table.
All the June 23 events are free and open to the public. Another day at Highfield not to be missed!

Docents tell the story of the Beebe family who built both Highfield Hall and its sister mansion Tanglewood on their magnificent 700 acre estate. Learn about the role the Beebe family played in the history of the town of Falmouth, and how their land later became Beebe Woods, Falmouth Hospital, Falmouth Academy and so much more.

Alison Robb leads walkers on a search through Beebe Woods for seasonal plants and animals. A bit of history of the woods and the Beebe’s, and a description of the unique geology of the glacial moraine give participants an understanding and appreciation of this extraordinary natural resource.

Kathleen Brunelle’s has extraordiary memories of Highfield Hall and its sister mansion, Tanglewood. Her grandparents were caretakers here when she was a child and she had the unique opportunity to explore the mansions, hear the stories and eventually write this remarkable history of the Beebe family. Cape Cod Chef’s Table gives readers, locals, and visitors a new perspective on this culinary scene. With recipes for the home cook from the Cape’s celebrated eateries and purveyors alongside beautiful full-color photos. John F. Carafoli is an internationally known food stylist, consultant, and food writer. He wrote the seminal book Food Photography and Styling and two children’s cookbooks, Look Who’s Cooking and The Cookie Cookbook. He has been published in the New York Times and Gastronomica. Carafoli has also been featured on the Food Network and NPR.

Highfield Hall's Executive Director's Estate Walk

Executive Director Barbara Milligan will take participants on a tour of the Highfield grounds to learn about the history of the property and the Beebe family. She'll talk about the original vision for the landscape and the architecture of both Highfield Hall and its sister mansion, Tanglewood. Delving into the fascinating history of the Beebe family, she'll discuss the
siblings who lived at Highfield, as well as the tragic story of the J. Arthur Beebe family and the demise of their summer home, Tanglewood. The tour will last about an hour and will require comfortable shoes for walking the grounds.

The Highfield Gardens Tour

Join Heather Wright on a stroll through the Highfield gardens to learn about the history of the landscape, how the master plan was developed, and the status of our garden restoration. Heather, who is both a landscape designer and Historic Highfield's controller, will discuss the various visions of the landscape over time and how decisions have been made to both honor and reflect the past, and provide reasonable solutions for the present. Heather will talk specifics about plant selection and design of both the Sunken Garden and brand new West Garden.

Take a closer look at the gardens of Highfield Hall with natural science illustrator and popular instructor Julie Child. Julie will guide students in ways of viewing nature to create a successful sketch. Participants should bring their own notebooks; the instructor will provide pencils. Summer Floral Arranging Workshop with Anna Holmes

Whether you’ve been creating your own floral arrangements for years, or just don’t think you have that talent, veteran instructor Anna Holmes will lead you through principals and design techniques to create your own fresh arrangement with a professional flare. In a friendly and supportive environment, she shares professional secrets and tips for longer-lasting fresh flowers.

Mosaic Landscapes: Translating the Beauty of Nature into Mosaics

This highly informative workshop focuses on the subject of a landscape as applied to mosaic arts. We concentrate on the following: the most effective ways of translating a landscape into a mosaic medium, an aerial perspective, depth of field, color solutions, textures, depiction of sky, water, and other landscape elements. $300 plus $30 materials fee
MOSAIC INTENSIVE: Enhancing Technical Skills & Integrating Artistic

The goal of the workshop is to offer an elevated sense of what mosaic is about, presenting a deeper way to think about one's work and the knowledge to push to the next level while broadening both skill-set and knowledge. Special emphasis will be made on personal expression and developing one's individual style. This class is designed for mosaic artists with intermediate to advanced skill level. $595
Virgins, Saints and Angels
July 22 & 23
Instructor: Laurie Mika
In this mixed media mosaic class we will focus on the human figure whether she is a virgin, a saint or an angel (or a queen!) Students will learn a variety of polymer clay surface techniques for tile making that include using gold leaf, stamping, painting, collage on clay, embedding and transfers. We will also hand paint tiles that I will make for you. $310 plus $20 supply fee
Mandalas, Shrines & Niche: A Mosaic Journey
July 24 – July 26
Instructor: Susan Wechsler
Students can take a spiritual journey with this class. Susan teaches how to make shrines, mandalas and niches using lost treasures, broken china and glass. This class is ideal for the novice. This class is appropriate for beginners. $385 plus $45 supply fee

Jim is the artistic director of Cape Cod Mosaic Workshops. He has taught hundreds of students throughout Cape Cod including the Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill, the Cape Cod Community College and the Falmouth Art Center. Students praise him for teaching in his calm assuring style. Students work at their own pace and are gently guided through the process of designing their first mosaic. $250 plus $20 supply fee
Elements if Design: Understanding COLOR!
July 31- Aug 2
Instructor: Lynne Chinn
This is Lynne's third trip to Cape Cod to teach with us. Our most popular mosaic teacher, Lynne is an expert colorist. This class will help the advance artist to understand the way color effects a work of art. Her awards are many, and she just won the Juror's Award for her piece, 'Arabesque" at the Society of American Mosaics annual convention. In this class, students will work with smalti, the ancient glass cubes made in Venice, Italy and used in churches and public spaces most notably in Europe. $435 plus $50 supply fee
